Top 5 Port Elizabeth Day Trips: Explore the Sunshine Coast

Port Elizabeth, now officially called Gqeberha, it’s like your pretty cool hub on the Sunshine Coast of South Africa. So, it makes perfect sense it’s like, you know, the ideal spot to set off on all sorts of day trips to check out what the Eastern Cape has to offer. Really, there are a wide range of choices that cover wildlife adventures to calm visits to locations soaked in history, that offer experiences just right for pretty much everyone.

1. Addo Elephant National Park: A Wildlife Extravaganza

Addo Elephant National Park, almost just a hop, skip, and a jump from Port Elizabeth, very nearly clocks in as a necessity for anybody like you, or anybody else, wanting a true taste of South African wildlife. As a matter of fact, first established way back in 1931 to, you know, give sanctuary to the meager handful of eleven elephants left standing, Addo is actually bursting at the seams with what they call the Big Seven currently; it includes elephants, rhinos, lions, buffalo, and leopards, not to mention, like, whales and great white sharks just off the coast. Still, there’s something for all, from watching wildlife on your own or setting off on an adventure with knowledgeable tour guides. It is almost as if I went there myself back in March. So, it was amazing being able to watch some truly giant herds of elephants hanging by the watering holes. That felt magical, and it’s an experience I will cherish as it let me more or less reconnect with the soul of South Africa. The park has like a variety of habitats, that range quite a bit so you can witness the change from thick forest parts to very wide open grasslands with so much life.

2. Jeffrey’s Bay: Surfing Paradise

Jeffrey’s Bay is fairly popular amongst those that call themselves surfers around the globe; pretty much everyone there knows it’s because of those superb waves plus a totally laid back setting. So, not too far away going west of Port Elizabeth, J-Bay, as the locals more or less call it, is that, you know, place to visit to taste the surfer type life-style along some beaches, not to mention that pretty interesting surf type museum.

Actually, for somebody, say like you that really likes to hang ten or anyone curious what it feels like to hang loose this place kind of gives way to it being worth something to you. As I recall, the beach called Supertubes can even bring skilled people to a place to call home; very likely it brings a person home to riding barrels or some gnarly breaks.

Very honestly I took some mates along with me once that gave up trying surfing some time ago to J-Bay, as I recall, and you see that it still has something more to bring the masses for it being there or something.
