Geraldton Private Tours: Top 5 Sightseeing Adventures
If you are planning a visit to Geraldton, getting around in a comfy, almost plush way can really boost the experience, so that’s where private sightseeing tours actually come into their own. You, just you or you plus your favorites, and some who’s hopefully a bit local to take you to all the best spots – doesn’t that sound pretty relaxing? After scratching my own travel itch in Western Australia, I kinda feel well-placed to share what genuinely works well here. Geraldton adventures, yeah? Here are five adventures that come up tops on a lot of lists.
1. Geraldton City Highlights Tour
Basically, if it’s your first look around, this sort of tour usually nails all the must-see places smack-bang in the middle of Geraldton, so it’s probably something you want to think about if you’re just hitting town. It can begin right at your hotel, very handy it sounds, then usually swing past the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, which really is a grand, attention-grabbing building – it’s almost like spotting it for the first time. A stop to check out the World War II Memorial, a deeply meaningful spot actually overlooking the ocean, comes next – gives you a minute, too, to reflect. Often, the tour includes a look at the Esplanade, so it has beautiful views and it’s rather perfect for wandering. Getting someone else to worry about the drive frees you up to take in these experiences at your own speed, and to soak in your surroundings, doesn’t it? With any tour of Geraldton this should be a definite stop!
What Makes it Special?
Its strength has to be how convenient and thorough it proves to be. Normally, you get background stories and info thrown in that you simply wouldn’t learn when plodding around yourself. What makes the City Highlights stand out so that I keep talking about it? It does this by really giving you an overview, and quickly. If you are quite short on time, or prefer to get your bearings before going it alone, this seems, potentially, a great way forward.
2. Abrolhos Islands Scenic Flight & Ground Tour
Okay, something pretty incredible: the Abrolhos Islands. It’s kind of beyond awesome. Seeing these from above just takes things into a completely separate zone. Usually this involves a scenic flight where, frankly, words almost fail as you look down on this scatter of islands, reefs, and dazzlingly sparkling waters. Typically, quite soon after soaring over all of that beauty, these trips will also bring you to land on one of the islands so you can potter about, soak in that rather specific island vibe and probably have some local insights laid on for you, as well. Be ready to witness what is pretty special out there, something completely wild. A flight is a popular option.
Why is this tour a ‘must-do’?
Right, you can only ever, very partially grasp the area’s scale and appeal without seeing it all from above. Add being able to set foot on one of the remote islands. Also, if you get a tour that’s hot on pointing out the marine life you may, possibly, get even more wows per minute. I had one where we got a glimpse of migrating whales – a genuinely magnificent treat to see, which will make the tour worth it, too.
3. Pinnacles Desert & Cervantes Day Tour
A bit of a travel essential, maybe a tiny bit out of Geraldton. This goes, rather brilliantly, to the Pinnacles Desert to gawp at these bizarre and strangely interesting rock formations jutting out of the sands. Pretty remarkable and often best at dawn or dusk as the light across the landscape morphs quite rapidly into quite startling visuals. Quite a few tours swing via Cervantes for a look at the Lobster Shack, where you’ll, more than likely, get to check out local crayfishing as well as sample some pretty fresh seafood. It could well be a very different landscape. What’s really interesting, though are the ancient rock formations!
The Unique Angle
Seeing something really, honestly strange such as the Pinnacles, out there in the quiet of sunset really is special. Combining this with a proper ‘working’ place such as Cervantes to see the Lobster industry ticks two ‘totally different’ boxes, very efficiently. If you feel, even remotely, as though you want to see nature’s quirkiness blended with the efforts of everyday, toiling humans, you’re onto a goodie with this trip.
4. Kalbarri National Park & Coastal Cliffs Tour
You should maybe set a day to get to the dramatic Kalbarri National Park. River gorges are very spectacular here; they give off a striking contrast, so get ready with your camera! Key locations that often figure during guided experiences consist of Nature’s Window, where the Murchison River can be viewed via a natural rock arch. The coastal cliffs are amazing too, that is because they are steep drops to where the ocean pounds below – you’re often in a brilliant spot for seeing whales (seasonal) so get out those binoculars, that is if you can! This can offer you an insight into one of the more spectacular national parks.
The Icing on the Cake
Nature’s Window, I suppose, can be fairly iconic – you will likely recognize it instantly from postcards, tour websites, that sort of thing. Being there physically and breathing that air is very different than seeing a pic. Getting across some distance with someone knowledgeable can easily amplify the experience; hopefully they may spot some fauna too which, in turn, offers up still more photo opportunities!
5. Chapman River Regional Park Eco Tour
Getting to Chapman River park normally brings more chilled out moments – usually a chance for walking plus appreciating birdlife and nature in general. It feels more close to Geraldton itself so transport times are lower! If you’re a bit of a birdwatcher and interested in local plant types, or, really, fancy a calmer sort of half-day escape that still offers nice visuals, consider joining. Consider birds and plant-life
Why It Works
What makes it attractive is the access to being very quiet, and, maybe more private as opposed to sites heavily publicized among those must-do attractions. Getting an expert’s eyes around so you may well detect things, birdlife possibly, normally unseen, is yet more fun. It may really have you appreciating subtle loveliness in nature.
