Rangiroa Tours: Top 5 Sightseeing & Cruise Experiences
Thinking about a getaway to Rangiroa? You are, like, so in for a treat! This Tahitian paradise, part of French Polynesia’s Tuamotu chain, is a big draw, just brimming with gorgeous lagoons, super underwater life, and total relaxation. I get it, planning is kinda the worst sometimes. So, I have pulled together what looks like the top 5 tours, sightseeing stuff, and cruises in Rangiroa to just get your planning started.
1. Lagoon Excursion & Motu Picnic
What’s that? You fancy experiencing Rangiroa’s dreamy lagoon up close? A lagoon excursion with a motu picnic is, anyway, an ideal starting point. This tour typically involves hopping onto a boat and exploring what might be different parts of the expansive lagoon. Now, you could be stopping at what appears to be a remote motu (that is, islet) for some time soaking up the sun, maybe some swimming, and grubbing down on a yummy Polynesian-style lunch.
Picture this: crystal-clear waters, powder-fine beaches, and just that light, warm breeze. Then imagine digging into freshly grilled fish, maybe sampling what tastes like tropical fruits, and sipping what’s kinda like coconut water. What might feel like the complete South Pacific vibe! What feels especially right with a nice cruise!
The excursions generally last around six to seven hours, what with prices seemingly starting from about $120-$150 per adult. Those tours sometimes provide you with what can be snorkeling equipment so too it’s almost like you are ready to explore coral gardens and underwater treasures when and where the fancy strikes.
2. The Blue Lagoon Tour
Now, it may be the Blue Lagoon lives up to its name, being pretty like a postcard with what feels like a vibrant shade of azure. The Blue Lagoon, just on the other side of Rangiroa from where most resorts and services are based, is apparently a smaller lagoon that resides inside of the main lagoon of Rangiroa. So, anyway, it is home to abundant what might be like wildlife, so too it’s almost the home for many bird species and you’re certain to have quite the tranquil experience while visiting.
This tour takes you on what looks like a boat trip to this secluded spot, usually with some opportunities for swimming and snorkeling in what can feel like seriously pristine waters. And this may just offer some unreal photograph opportunities, with the shades, the sands, and everything just blending. As I was saying, depending on the tour operator, you might just enjoy what I find to be a picnic lunch at Blue Lagoon before you begin what seems like your trip back.
Most Blue Lagoon trips last around six hours and seem to have similar starting prices, like in that $130 – $160 range.
3. Snorkeling at Tiputa Pass
Got yourself an urge to swim next to what looks like dolphins, manta rays, and loads more marine critters? Well then, the Tiputa Pass snorkeling tour must be up your alley! That is just because that, at Tiputa Pass, is actually the pass that links what almost feels like Rangiroa’s lagoon to the open ocean, this particular current means plenty of ocean species come really close and the diving is world class.
Here you would expect some wild drifts that might just add a thrill to what can only be your experience. Tour operators generally plan drift dives in ways that it seems perfectly manageable and rather not really scary or too dangerous. You can anticipate observing a ton of colorful fishes, manta rays (depending when it is), sharks, and maybe you get to see wild dolphins frolicking, now that’s great!
This one usually can last a few hours and I guess it goes around, like, $80-$120. A very cool treat, to be honest. The experience must feel, more or less, amazing if you are into it and that seems pretty important at the end of the day!
4. Vineyard & Wine Tasting
Wine tasting in what is arguably a Tahitian atoll? As a matter of fact, this just might sound unconventional, right? Well there is a real, viable vineyard in Rangiroa and there is apparently something rather cool about going there! I found out that it is the only one of its kind with grapes apparently growing on coral soil in the middle of the ocean. The domain of Dominique Auroy produces what seems to be unique wines thanks to the natural sea setting, so in a way its hard to do anything like it!
Get that it is probably a change from all of that snorkeling! You would expect a relaxed outing where you try and learn more about the winemaking. The tours are also not necessarily every day because that kinda requires organization with this little, family biz vibe.
Wine tasting generally goes for a couple hours, or less if you just are buying something at the little bodega they have there, and may not even charge anything at all! Well, you have to buy a glass or bottle I think.
5. Sunset Cruise
What’s cooler to wrap up your time on a pacific island than seeing the golden orb lowering beneath the waves? A sunset cruise may not be, perhaps, all that novel, but I also kind of believe it is essential!
What seems like the perfect finish for another awesome day in Rangiroa! These cruises often have stuff that goes beyond a normal boat tour, seemingly with beverages (alcoholic and non), some grub, and relaxing times looking to the ocean for, like, two or three hours or something similar. A bit different from some of those other excursions with all the swimming and what might seem to be snorkeling, which may make the day pretty tiring.
Some of the vessels actually have see through bottoms where they’ve put panes in, now isn’t that something? It must be, really, really something else to cruise along the lagoon and enjoy an apéro, so nice!
Now, those typically start at about $80, could be less. And you almost certainly would enjoy yourself, as a matter of fact!
