Tel Aviv boasts a seriously amazing coastline, stretching along the Mediterranean for what seems like miles. That’s absolutely right, the beaches are definitely the star of the show here. Each spot has its own feel, so to speak. I remember spending almost a whole day at Banana Beach once. So it’s great just for chilling with some good music and maybe getting a tan. Bograshov Beach, anyway, is way more lively and popular among younger people. So if there’s one thing I’ve come to understand, it’s that seeing Tel Aviv by bike has a completely new kind of charm. The Tel Aviv Promenade, sometimes called the “Tayelet,” is arguably among the very best spots to experience exactly that. Now, very simply put, the paved path stretches pretty far, just from Jaffa’s ancient port up to the north, getting pretty close to the Tel Aviv Port. What’s so good, really, about going for a bike ride is getting an absolutely amazing ocean breeze and access to some spectacular views.

Almost all of Tel Aviv has bike lanes all throughout it, which does make pedaling safe, just too it is convenient. There are lots of places where you can rent a bike. You can check out spots offering daily rentals. Or even use Tel-O-Fun, it’s like the city’s bike-sharing program and it’s something that’s worth looking at. Very helpful is how you’re able to stop for something to eat or get a cold drink as there is access to just any number of beachside cafes or shops all just a few steps away. So this sprawling green area right beside the Hayarkon River brings a break from the busy city streets. In general, there is just acres and acres where you can picnic, wander, and it may even be you doing some kayaking. Actually, when I took a morning jog around here I ran into locals that were involved in just about any form of exercise that you could possibly imagine, too.

I can tell you what, the park is far from one-dimensional! You have botanical gardens exhibiting tons of unique plant types that may catch your eye. What’s more there are themed gardens that could provide the most tranquil escapes. Don’t you worry though! The young’uns will be anything other than bored here with children’s playgrounds spread at pretty much every area of the park. During weekends the park really comes to life when there are shows and all forms of live entertainment on offer at different stages all over Park Hayarkon. Believe it or not! Even a water park that has all manner of attractions has settled down on its lawns too for those very long, very hot summer afternoons!

Wander the Jaffa Old City: A Step Back in Time

A short distance down from Tel Aviv is Jaffa, in a way, one of the most historic spots to go to in all Israel, really. Going through its twisting, small streets kinda feels like going into another, quieter, almost, slower phase of history. Just imagine walking over the ancient port, with just fishing boats softly swaying along with each wave. So, anyway, this spot goes back several millennia! Which goes without saying is it was a main player just in maritime trade and stories that have passed through many civilizations and all left bits of themselves just in these alleyways.

While walking by, I was very awed with the sandstone buildings all lining walkways. As a matter of fact there are artists galleries and little studios around nearly every corner, as it looks. Of course, don’t ignore seeing the Jaffa Flea Market where what seems like absolutely everything can be haggled for and purchased too it’s almost too strange to believe it. If you make your ways up to the HaPisgah Garden you can expect panoramic views both onto Tel Aviv and out toward the wide sea so keep your camera to hand! One place in particular definitely caught my interest with the Simon the Tanner House which has its own set stories, myths and all is arguably too amazing to miss for sure if seeing ancient locales takes your fancy.
