Bergen Tours: Top 5 Sightseeing & Cruise Options
Bergen, with its attractive harbor, surrounding mountains, and just that certain something in the air, is something that just invites people to come experience its magic. Bergen offers many adventures. So, it’s almost necessary to have a solid game plan. Deciding how you wanna discover this city is that first step, really. From taking a casual walk through its famous wharf to, like, heading out on an adventure on the fjords, there truly is that way for just about everyone to take it all in. I’ve picked out, like, my favorite five tours, sightseeing trips, and cruises to kinda point ya in a great direction, so too you can just start planning that trip!
1. The “Norway in a Nutshell” Tour: The Big Picture
I would suggest the “Norway in a Nutshell” tour for those who, like, want to see the major highlights of the region without handling all the logistics themselves. It’s kinda great that this is more or less a combination of, like, train rides, boat trips, and bus rides. You just relax, watch everything go by, and kinda take photos. I recall that my friend Jenna did this tour, and she came back with just these mind-blowing stories about the Flåm Railway and the Nærøyfjord cruise, raving that they were totally the highlights. Just picture it, a train ride taking you past mighty waterfalls and scenic valleys, followed up, maybe, by a peaceful cruise on that fjord. Yeah, sounds just awesome.
Typically, this excursion can, just maybe, eat up the entire day. Yet, that feeling of exhaustion? Totally replaced by, maybe, how breathtaking the landscapes you’ll see are. This is something that would make that ‘bucket list’ material without question. It might be that way to check a bunch of things off all at once.
2. Exploring Bryggen Wharf: Time Travel Back in Time
A casual saunter down Bryggen Wharf? Absolutely should be, like, on that list, actually. So, it’s that old, so pretty too! What once was is almost that old Hanseatic trading port just makes it rich with stories from a very long time ago, kinda painted up now in eye-popping colors. I felt almost pulled in time. I just remember strolling by these buildings and picturing how that port buzzed in centuries gone by, I could just feel it all around me. Each structure seems like its own tale. I recall finding that neat little shop that was just loaded up with local crafts and souvenirs.
It’s probably gonna be quite full of visitors during those prime touring months. But in the off-season? More of, like, that time to feel this charm in relative calm and quiet. It might just be cool to grab a spot in that harbor, just so you could have something yummy to eat, and people-watch. Or you may enjoy a museum and that trip back in time. I still enjoy wandering this spot, so much, so this is totally worth adding to your adventure!
3. Fløibanen Funicular: Above Bergen, Way Above
For, just maybe, a great overview of Bergen and the region all around it, a visit to Mount Fløyen with the Fløibanen Funicular is quite recommended. Getting to that summit really is something where one can actually be a part of it! Plus the views from the top are incredible, yeah. Just imagine standing up there with Bergen below ya. I actually still get amazed, year after year! It’s certainly that photo opportunity just too hard to say ‘no’ to.
Now that top’s been reached? Loads of hiking paths just kinda call to nature enthusiasts. It seems those treks pass forests and vistas, so too those moments you wanna capture that special something. Plus, for, maybe, those wanting less ‘strenuous’? There’s that viewing platform nearby, too. Pack those goodies to eat! With all the views around and so on, there’s, just maybe, some awesome picnicking places that could be taken advantage of. Fløibanen is really something worth checking out if views and trails are more your scene! This adventure offers pretty sights for people with various hobbies.
4. Fjord Cruise to Mostraumen: Floating the Fjords
A fjord cruise? Quite just a ‘must-do’ if it’s, just maybe, nature that strikes that cord within. I, for one, have done multiple fjord trips, all pretty fantastic. The cruise to Mostraumen seems like it’s something else! It feels that, as you cruise, one passes tall mountains and eye-catching waterfalls, which gives one, very, that feeling. The feeling is grand! I almost recall seeing, at just one moment, the boat barely fitting into that narrow waterway that seemed rather surreal. It feels kinda something taken right from some movie.
And it’s almost not only just a trip, kinda; the guides sprinkle things with those stories and knowledge which brings everything to some sense of life. Yeah, these cruises normally run a number of hours; typically they feature comfy spots that just let one take that scenery. Just make it a point to get warm gear along; temperatures right on fjords sometimes have that bite! Want scenery? Book one! You are certain to love fjords.
5. Bergen Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour: All Around the City
Want ease while touring key parts of Bergen? Hop on/hop off buses? Certainly just might have what’s wanted! These buses commonly travel around top landmarks like Grieg’s abode, the Bergen Aquarium and further stops! What is neat too, as well, is that freedom to explore each landmark without some timetable looming nearby. And with that audio guide at hand? Well, yeah, some info on the background.
There can be spots, quite a few, nearby key attractions; grabbing something quick might even be possible during these breaks. So too these services generally function at different times right through that calendar, just check everything beforehand. Basically, these routes tend to be popular; think through that early boarding or checking ahead if crowds just aren’t some element that attracts one. Those with sights close, some transport means close and learning that setting? These are great, simply just, yeah. Make the most of seeing attractions when in a different city.
