1. Azay-le-Rideau: A Renaissance Dream

Azay-le-Rideau

Just a quick hop from Chinon, Azay-le-Rideau feels, in some respects, like stepping right into, well, you might say a fairy tale. This awesome building, so pretty and kind of magical, sits beautifully on, you know, an island smack-dab in the middle of the Indre River, like it rose right up from it. Its style is that of the Renaissance era, so fancy and elaborate that, like, everyone pauses just to gaze at the fancy appearance and all the details which really pop, almost.

The building’s reflections on the calm waters basically add, kind of, to the dreamlike, fantastical feel, something like you can’t totally describe without seeing it. A visit inside allows guests, naturally, the ability to have some kind of insight regarding how kings lived back in the day, so luxurious! Next to the gorgeous structure are wide lawns where, it could be said, taking a stroll is just lovely. Spend an afternoon hanging here, maybe taking photos, maybe soaking up what that atmosphere really holds, and you can’t lose, right? It’s so worthwhile.

2. Villandry: Gardens of Unparalleled Beauty

Villandry Gardens

Okay, so about a half-hour’s jaunt from Chinon lies, you might say, Villandry, and that’s where you will catch their widely renowned gardens. The landscape architects definitely wanted these gardens to shine in all that they are and, as a matter of fact, you can stroll past each layer of flowers to witness all their hard work; for real. Visitors typically can wander through gardens and maybe even learn stuff like how stuff used to grow centuries ago. So, like, I’ve actually been to Villandry a couple times and always find myself wanting to roam the landscaping just one more time!

These aren’t, like, any old green spots; these are spaces designed to have layers of cool designs that, in other words, represent love using plant life, while other layers give you some idea what sort herbs have been good through time, basically. The gardens, as a matter of fact, show the spirit of the Renaissance age because the plants are always nicely kept. Every spot appears perfect and is so cool for, like, picture-taking. Even folks that typically wouldn’t walk the outdoors or usually like structures seem to take interest when coming to Villandry!

3. Fontevraud Abbey: A Royal Resting Place

Fontevraud Abbey

So a tad further off than other locales, around 45 mins from Chinon, there exists that spot where the Fontevraud Abbey resides and that is such a must-do attraction. This former-church turned-historical museum brings, you know, guests to learn about its crazy heritage that goes back almost one thousand years; hard to believe, that is that very historical structure once held French royalty and over time evolved.

Take note that this is actually one of the most well-maintained monastery sites throughout the region. This impressive framework happens to feature so much, to include awesome tall ceilings and plenty of nooks just waiting to have attention brought forth. Notably, those sculptures showcasing the royal family such as Richard the Lionheart could very well catch your attention. It feels, to be honest, so unique seeing figures preserved through art. Anyone that, generally, cares for Europe’s old days may love discovering this spot!

4. Saumur: Sparkling Wines and a Majestic Castle

Saumur Castle France

Just a little ways down the road is Saumur. The destination serves not one single role but many and, basically, provides two major offerings. Not too far from Saumur’s city borders sits its royal residence where I promise some history buffs, clearly, can spend days exploring, just walking throughout every old zone. As a matter of fact, it makes people who pause there picture what those regal old epochs once appeared as.

Apart from all that history the city acts as one popular spot so people grab sips. That location does many types. Probably their bubbliest offering must be consumed! Plan ahead since many cellars do sales alongside giving vineyard rides. Saumur acts something like this location for which those history and sip lovers may, like, discover interests combined as something of one journey. It all provides plenty joy. The wines must always have supervision consumed however!

5. Richelieu: The Cardinal’s Ideal City

Richelieu France

Next on my destinations listing shows Richelieu. It’s really near 25 mins from where Chinon is! Richelieu holds charm. This place carries one well thought scheme! Basically it had all construction designed in alignment with plans commissioned right off one famed statesman, known popularly under that distinction called, appropriately, The Cardinal.

As matter fact, anyone approaching becomes almost suddenly stunned given all symmetrical patterns given all central rows right inside town. Anybody having care, honestly, regarding building must explore Richelieu just since something distinctive displays greatly through design’s vision alone. Beyond checking layouts it seems rather common heading from shops or maybe grabbing bites there after which just spend periods absorbing its air. So Richelieu acts one spot displaying creativity brought well since its structure itself has many interests, just planned thoughtfully!
