1. Sky Road: Clifden’s Iconic Scenic Drive
That Sky Road near Clifden isn’t, yet, just any scenic drive, is it? As a matter of fact, I’d argue it is pretty much one of the most scenic drives, certainly in Ireland, in some respects, maybe in the world. Basically, you begin right from Clifden and then, as I was saying, loop around the coast. So, basically, what happens is you get amazing views of the Atlantic, that is, the islands that just dot the shoreline, and the dramatic coastline. You know, you could, literally, pull over at various points; that might be the most scenic view. By the way, so there’s plenty of opportunities to take pictures and, in that case, breathe in that incredibly wild, bracing sea air. Basically, the Sky Road has that lower road, a bit like a gentle spin, and the higher road for those views, that is, where you will say “WOW!”. Now discover this breathtaking coastal route!
2. Connemara National Park: Hiking and Nature
If you like to lace up those hiking boots, you will love Connemara National Park, because it is practically just a short drive from Clifden, that’s all. Actually, the park presents all sorts of trails, so to speak, alright, for all ability levels. Basically, you might opt to tackle Diamond Hill, where it’s quite a climb, but the view from up there stretches over all of Connemara, as I was saying, is amazing. Instead, you may prefer a simple wander through the woodlands and boglands, still, looking out, of course, for the Connemara ponies; is that right, you just know that they roam wild and free, right? Actually, the park has a visitor center too, where they provide information about the local flora and fauna; actually, it’s a grand start to the day. Did you explore wildlife at Connemara National Park?
3. Kylemore Abbey: History and Beauty
As a matter of fact, a day trip to Kylemore Abbey is essential when you are around Clifden, is it? After all, that location sits actually by a lake, so, really, it makes an impression right away; in fact, the Abbey has a pretty moving backstory, too. I’m just saying that you should wander around the Victorian walled garden, because it has, that is, been lovingly restored, right? Check out the neo-Gothic church, and then, in that case, learn a bit about the Benedictine nuns that ended up making their home there after they had to flee Belgium in World War One. By the way, the views from Kylemore Lake are some of the most photographed around, you see, but very rightfully so! Basically, immerse yourself in nature, yet learn all about Kylemore Abbey’s rich history.
4. Inishbofin Island: A Ferry to Paradise
Want something, in fact, just a bit different? Jump on the ferry, too, over to Inishbofin Island. Obviously, the ferry departs regularly, usually from Cleggan, so, naturally, you’ve just got to make the short drive there from Clifden. Seemingly, Inishbofin is just, like, that, an escape; and seriously it has got dramatic cliffs, gorgeous beaches, and even a cool old fort! Really, you can explore the whole island on foot. Then, usually, rent a bike to visit the many, more or less, untouched beaches or actually just absorb the traditional island life. In other words, the island’s teeming with birdlife too, is it, which makes it popular with those bird-watching types. Still, there are those few pubs too, usually, for a creamy pint of Guinness while, basically, you absorb what’s basically paradise! Well, now enjoy paradise on Inishbofin!
5. Westport: A Charming Town Escape
Fancy taking in, a little bit, a change of pace for your day trip? Basically, consider driving up to Westport; so, it’s usually about an hour and half from Clifden. Actually, Westport is literally known for its beautiful Georgian architecture, not only that, but its buzzing atmosphere as well. I mean, you can wander along the pretty streets, look at the shops, you see, visit Westport House–that family home with its history is fabulous–or head up Croagh Patrick if you are actually that way inclined. At the end of the day, now the town boasts many great spots, that could be, to eat so, obviously, try to sample some of the freshest seafood. Usually, after that day’s explorations you could take a walk by the harbor; naturally it’s lovely at sunset. Find time to visit this beautiful gem, anyway explore charming Westport!
