Donegal Car Tours: Top 5 Routes for the Scenic Explorer

Dreaming of feeling the Irish wind whipping through your hair as you, that is, cruise along a breathtaking coastline? Donegal, that northern jewel of Ireland, is arguably, pretty much, where those dreams become actual memories. And really what nicer way is there, you know, to soak it all up, but to jump behind the wheel and explore at your own speed? I mean the Wild Atlantic Way winds its magic completely through Donegal, providing what I’d say are loads of chances for mind-blowing road trips. Here, then, alright, I guess, are five road trip routes that truly stick out. And honestly they are just so very good at showing you what makes Donegal unique; that dramatic shoreline, those high cliffs, that heritage bursting with culture.

1. The Wild Atlantic Way: Southern Loop

I’d say to kick things off; alright why don’t we go explore a route that sticks tight to some sections along that famous Wild Atlantic Way? I mean starting your journey, really, almost somewhere in Donegal Town could be just perfect. As a matter of fact drive toward the south-western parts, to the wonderful, just truly delightful, so called Slieve League cliffs. They’re almost, very much like the Cliffs of Moher, yet you could argue there is just a bit less of a crowd, and the scenery is something else. They just tend to tower magnificently right out of the Atlantic; I mean it truly creates a visual. Take your time here; and really I mean stop at that viewing spot; just the main one, where honestly you can snap, and arguably will want to snap; almost a zillion photos, or just literally stroll along some walking routes, too it’s almost, alright, just there, letting that nature just absolutely thrill your very senses.

Following that, right then continue toward Glencolmcille. Is that now a location steeped really, seriously, very, much with history, and some traditional Irish culture, if I am being honest? I mean you should drop in to that Glencolmcille Folk Village to, arguably, travel a bit back in history, and maybe, that see that way our ancestors lived. After that, very that go to Malin Beg, where so arguably a magical, actually rather hidden little beach tends to be just waiting for exploration. Arguably after some sun; or sand, it might be cool to drive to Ardara, so you just go experience the charm there, alright I guess.

Finish up, literally alright, maybe, around Donegal Town where it possibly all started. Now there; then there you will discover places where you can grab a bite, hear a bit of a music session, and that just literally you celebrate that trip you, so now just concluded. Anyway is there anything, actually in that very Southern WAW area like those scenic places, and culture soaked places. So it is a nice way, right enough to meet that county in particular, and I tell you now. It can be traveled fairly calmly, very casually over several days; that allows stops, side trips and everything I was just chatting about to just go deep.

2. The Inishowen Peninsula Loop

Head up, okay up; way that up up north. Arguably Inishowen; now Inishowen it’s really Ireland’s biggest peninsula, isn’t it? So okay it extends proudly right, okay right on out toward that North Atlantic. Maybe the beginning should literally happen at Buncrana; is that now an awesome starting place which has just delightful coastal roads for following onward to places, more or less places; like Mamore Gap; you know to me what is definitely almost a narrow, mountain pass. I mean maybe, you get that one in that rearview, you should, definitely absolutely stop there at that top, too it’s almost alright that enjoy some views of that dramatic kind. And anyway those kind tend to span right to every side. Very what is really lovely, by the way is watching how the land goes just right steeply on either end.

Proceed further onward to places such as Ballyliffin, right I reckon to play some amazing games that have golf. The pretty links right, there tend to pull lovers that arrive from the whole world pretty much, is that maybe not so astonishing. Just, alright now that after golfing, or the golf then head out toward Malin Head; like now that’s the northernmost thing to that Irish mainland. So and the fact is just enjoy a place that seems kind of bare yet that view is something which you are so going to actually love.

After this, you go, okay go downward; to, as a matter of fact south; to, and you have to go that way; to Kinnagoe Bay. Right it is where the Spanish Armada vessel that “La Trinidad Valencera” literally came just sadly that grief there way down. You, definitely seriously should also, drop right there in at that Maritime Museum located almost a little in a ways away to meet this tale almost closer; anyway to get more closely into how events there were going on. Round it all off with one final stop in the historical places found near Carndonagh that is one that goes way far back when. And in truth that offers so literally so many places with real deep backgrounds to consider.

3. The Atlantic Drive (Aran Mór Island)
