Galveston Foodie Paradise: Top 5 Eats & Drinks
Galveston, with its breezes and historic charm, offers way more than just pretty beaches. It’s also kind of a food lover’s hotspot, if you ask me. From kind of laid-back seafood shacks to more fancy places with Gulf views, Galveston’s got pretty good taste for pretty much every appetite. I’m gonna let you in on my fav spots, where pretty good food meets a bit of that Galveston vibe. You’ll be thanking me later, for real.
Shrimp ‘N Stuff: Casual Bites With Big Flavor
First up is Shrimp ‘N Stuff, which, honestly, lives up to its name. If you’re after a place that is unpretentious where the grub is actually top-notch, that is, this spot’s the place, right? This place is totally unpretentious in a way. Don’t let the vibe of “hole-in-the-wall” fool you because these guys know a thing or two about killer seafood. I always get their shrimp po’boy because it is always super overloaded with juicy shrimp, dressed with everything you might actually need and more. Their seafood gumbo is awesome, that’s right, perfect when the breeze is a bit… bitey. It warms you from your belly right to your toes, that is what I am saying. Oh, and it is super easy on your pocket, too, so it’s just, you know, perfect for a midday chill sesh after hitting up the beach. If you’re in the mood, this place rocks!
Gaido’s: A Galveston Institution With A View
Gaido’s isn’t just like eating out; it’s honestly experiencing Galveston’s legacy. I kid you not. It has been serving up folks with fresh seafood since 1911. It’s not bad in a way. Located so the views of the Gulf are something else, Gaido’s is, like, that choice if you want something that’s got a touch of class, yeah? Order the grilled red snapper, it just usually has the most yummy citrus taste that I love. Make a reservation! They do get kinda packed, so plan beforehand, ok? Believe me. It is like visiting the Statue of Liberty or some landmark but for food, seriously. You didn’t visit Galveston if you skipped this iconic spot!
The Porch Cafe: Home-Cooked Comfort Food
I sometimes end up at The Porch Cafe whenever I need something that will remind me of something more home-cooked. That place has got this charming, comfy thing going on. Think of it, it feels almost like chilling at your super cool grandma’s pad, but you can see the beach. Their menu features dishes that I almost think someone’s abuela concocted like their boudin balls (a Cajun delight). Plus, you know, they do brunch RIGHT. So it’s almost the spot if you love your Eggs Benedict with a Southern spin, as an example, it is there, too. I usually go on Sundays after hitting the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier. This small spot feels more unique than a chain place, alright? It is where comfort meets flavor, seriously.
Rooftop Bar at The Tremont House: Drinks With A View
Want to up the stakes for the usual drink? Visit the Rooftop Bar at The Tremont House. It’s that place where you’re up super high looking over all the peeps from the Strand District. So, yeah, you actually might want to just grab a drink at sunset, okay? The cocktails, are just really very good, so I think the bartenders do pretty good work there, yeah? This is somewhere you take pics to remember the view later. Okay, here’s a tip. Try the “Galveston Sunset” cocktail that has fresh fruits! In a nutshell: stunning view, totally fab drinks, yeah?
Benno’s Cajun Seafood: Spice It Up
And for some eats with some punch, I like hitting up Benno’s Cajun Seafood. Right when you feel like livening up dinner with some spices, that, that, right there, Benno’s is really worth a stop. Serving like legit Cajun food in a really very unpretentious area, their boiled crawfish has the right kick that some people seem to crave. It comes with corn and new potatoes, seriously. I’d wear some kind of older clothes, if you are messy like I am. Or a bib, anyway! Benno’s will never let you down with its chill location and lively flavors. It gets kinda busy around dinner, so think about arriving a bit earlier, if you ask me! So good, so local, seriously!
