Mismaloya Food: Top Spots You Gotta Try!
Okay, so you’re headed to Mismaloya, a cool spot down in Mexico? Very nice! That you should be wanting some inside info about where all you could be filling your belly while there, I figured. The grub scene down there is just something. You might find places that are more than meets the eye in the restaurants there. That is really a plus.
1. Le Kliff: Views and Vittles
Now, Le Kliff is not only a joint; rather, you have here a dining gig with what I would almost call some theater thrown in. Right away, it is the view that might snatch your breath. We’re talking open-air dining perched up high on the cliffs so that it’s very dramatic. This eatery can be great to bring that romantic someone to dinner with too. And food? Think pretty amazing seafood with a flair. So imagine eating grilled octopus as you get to view the sunset just there.
Actually, way back in the ’60s, Le Kliff, as I understand it, began as this quaint little snack bar. Back then, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were down filming “Night of the Iguana” so it had an extra dose of glamour and style to it. I have a friend who says the lobster is beyond compare, and so that may be up your alley if you swing around there, maybe. But even if seafood isn’t really your thing, do think about this. The setting really does steal any show you could find.
2. Boca de Tomates: Farm-to-Table Freshness
Just slightly outside Mismaloya (worth the quick jaunt) sits Boca de Tomates. Now here, it could feel like something rustic yet seriously classy, like, all rolled into just one place. Their setup is all about farm-to-table kinda eats, mostly thanks to having the on-site garden being what keeps it real. They tend to have whatever they have available at hand for that day and serve that only. So expect everything to have maximum yum and freshness.
That seems to ring true with this lady I met just the other day that swears by their huaraches – kind of like sandals made out of corn masa, piled way up high with fresh stuff. This tends to be where they excel and so they make sure that is an item that stays on the menu, you will be pleased to know! Basically, Boca de Tomates gives your experience a way that lets you take it down a bit from the bustling feel with an almost intimate-feeling kind of lunch.
3. Restaurant El Jacalito: A Taste of Tradition
I would then head right over to Restaurant El Jacalito for some honest grub and good views. This place probably hits the list as that go-to spot for really feeling that real Mexican vibe so to speak. Maybe this would also serve to be an off-path kind of dining destination but well worth your look for a nice local dive. They know that one taste of Mexico will have people lining up for it later on too.
For the times I stopped by, so they did this very generous, slow-cooked goat dish, and it got very addictive. Their seafood could seem on the money there too, since you see, with Mismaloya basically being by the ocean, their fish dishes can always be a nice thought. And just what would the cost look like? Real easy on the travel budget thing to consider as you plan that. All in all, think low-key and yummy that tastes a lot like local heritage.
4. The Swedes Bar & Bistro
OK, picture this. One minute, you get all this feel of authentic Mexican goodness, then what appears to you next seems just like some random, different experience. This can kind of happen as you swing on over to The Swedes Bar & Bistro! So basically the twist might be that you get what seems like Swedish hospitality just by Mexico. A few tell me it is like a small part of Europe got cozy up with a beach-type of attitude! What!
One buddy told me that their Swedish meatballs had this hold over her that has made her come back anytime they hit Mismaloya. Even with all that Swedish kind of menu staring at me though, their fresh seafood offerings are nice to consider. And it does get better when they’re known to also have some great service that’s so accommodating to any tourist out for just an unusual food mix.
5. El Nogalito: Riverside Dining
For this vibe where things almost have you just settle way down with that Mother Nature thing, look up El Nogalito. You’ll find this spot situated alongside what could only be described as a lazy river, wrapped around with nothing but jungle views everywhere so that it sets your mind to quiet. This makes for quite a choice, really different when your mind drifts around wondering if you ought to just try an eating scene with lots of peace.
From there, the consensus tells that its casual charm coupled with solid local eats have turned this into just what you need just so you are looking for where all the townfolk might go to. I have to go on about that fresh fish again — yep, so, it’s delicious — but I will not keep that quiet from ya! You’d probably like taking one small timeout for their margaritas so as to do things the way of the locals would get it done!
