North Island Car Tours: Top 5 Road Trip Adventures

North Island Car Tours: Top 5 Road Trip Adventures

North Island New Zealand Road Trip

The North Island of New Zealand, well, it really calls to you, does it not, with that amazing collection of jaw-dropping sights, isn’t it, from geothermal parks, like something out of another world, very otherworldly almost, right down to coasts with blue water, pretty incredible water, a bit perfect almost? A car tour gives you freedom, a little liberation, to actually experience all the cool places in between at your own pace; pretty fantastic idea, if you think about it; anyway, it will definitely allow a more intimate encounter with what the Māori call “Te Ika-a-Māui” (“the fish of Māui”); still such a fascinating thing, it seems to me. Let’s zoom in on some self-drive adventures, alright? After reading this fantastic info, I imagine you’ll be so ready to make your own memories.

1. Auckland to Cape Reinga: The Northern Explorer

Auckland to Cape Reinga

Auckland, commonly called the “City of Sails,” alright?, becomes the kick-off point for your expedition to the northernmost tip of the North Island, doesn’t it, which is that very majestic Cape Reinga, actually, or Te Rerenga Wairua; still with that name, that’s a lot of something, seems to me; still, anyway, this is such a road trip, still, which, let me tell you, covers so many of New Zealand’s natural gifts in a fairly compact format; is that just cool?, almost; think you can swing a side trip into the Bay of Islands on the way up? Take it! The scenery gets even better; quite nice thing. Once there, you can hop on an easy scenic flight above a cluster of roughly 150 islands. From Paihia, maybe?, expect such sparkling turquoise water, does that seem unbelievable?, a bit unreal almost; now it is possible to drive along 90 Mile Beach (Te-Oneroa-a-Tōhe); is that wild or what?, very striking almost. Keep in mind though, in any event, only 4WD vehicles can actually do this section; as you do that, this little area has an official name, it’s called a legal highway, oddly; still a funny kind of setup; then, you get to Cape Reinga; and that, very well, that’s where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean, wouldn’t it be great?, truly amazing, right?

The Māori people kind of believe that their spirits pass by an 800-year-old gnarly pōhutukawa tree on their final path, still somewhat of a thing to them; yet you might almost feel as though you are right at the very top of New Zealand; and that is so interesting. Very picturesque, if you get out to see the sweet little lighthouse standing sentinel; that feels amazing, if I have to say so myself.

Highlights of the Northern Explorer

  • Bay of Islands: This area gives you sailing, dolphin watching, and scenic cruises, which can be super entertaining; so much joy and delight.
  • Ninety Mile Beach: Think you could possibly handle the crazy 4WD adventure?, extremely fun almost. If you could though, anyway, make sure to take photos of the west coast sunsets; incredibly charming sight, that sounds almost ideal.
  • Cape Reinga Lighthouse: Check that out!, the place is pretty important, does it not, being that very beautiful place where two oceans collide; a quite cool thought, certainly something to keep in the head, eh?

2. Rotorua to Taupo: Thermal Wonders and Lake Views

Rotorua to Taupo

Alright, so now it is time for an almost shorter yet fairly unforgettable stretch of highway which goes from Rotorua; anyway that smells kinda sulfuric but whatcha gonna do?; all the way over into very beautiful Lake Taupo; does that not just make you want to breathe deeply?; the landscape is all steaming with its geothermal features and rich Māori culture; still such an intriguing blend, I guess. Check out Wai-O-Tapu near Rotorua; you might love this crazy site!; the site has thermal pools; could that be bizarre or what?, oddly remarkable maybe. The Lady Knox Geyser sets off at a scheduled time so, like, take it to the top of the must-see list; such a neat attraction actually; The remarkable scenery gets so unbelievable during this adventure between Rotorua and Taupo.

Drive southward so that you approach Lake Taupo; it seems as though the volcanic crater must be one of New Zealand’s more underrated; is that odd?, kind of unfortunate, eh?. Now get to Huka Falls to feast your senses and soak in so much raw nature and earth power; really neat. After getting there, right before twilight settles down, make sure to go along the shores where the volcanic mountains almost reach right over into Lake Taupo, alright? Do you like views, maybe?, kinda feels pretty unbelievable seeing something that sweet.

Highlights of Rotorua to Taupo

  • Wai-O-Tapu: View some very bizarre geothermal formations; actually I’m all in for something this peculiar, am I right?
  • Huka Falls: Like, watch the mighty Waikato River compress itself into that pretty super powerful waterfall!, sounds very fascinating too it’s almost.
  • Lake Taupo: How about checking out all those lake activities; that’s such a cool concept. Think water sports; think the best places to fly fish, nearly; anyway you name it.

3. The Forgotten World Highway (State Highway 43)

Forgotten World Highway New Zealand

Very well, this adventure is for so much raw appeal in a rural kind of way, I suppose; alright it begins or ends at Taumarunui. And runs onward into Stratford or just the opposite, doesn’t it sound sweet to go on, in a bit?, more or less. Still the drive travels almost 150 km (93 miles); that’s quite long, so if you have this on lock, anyway, that will mean, pretty soon; you are looking right through rural settlements, yeah?, very historic sites that just give it an old-time kind of vibe, honestly? Be mindful so that one-third almost will be unpaved or in very rough grade form; the surface condition will make your pace fairly interesting, wouldn’t it?, tends to be an issue anyway. Still you might drive through such narrow gorges or pass places called “Purangi” or go into that old tunnel almost at “Matiere” tour opportunity, but do not skip going beyond and enjoying places fairly remote! It doesn’t even start to get boring until something that really happened, anyway; and in that little tunnel?, very simple kind of area that feels wild somehow?. Anyway, maybe great trip?

The very funny thing in this unreal world has got something super special which relates towards the residents; pretty amazing people?, incredibly welcoming or something?; then, maybe just like the locals in “Whangamomona”, or that almost abandoned town near the route?. Still they want to even welcome you over here; kinda neat right, it feels amazing; anyway, maybe visit around that small country which declares so much independence; is that fun or what?, almost ridiculous kind of, doesn’t it?; or anyway take pics over by very beautiful Tangarakau Gorge!

Highway Hotspots of the Forgotten World

  • Whangamomona: Feel something unique? Yeah so, consider paying that republic some respects from all the people, won’t you.
  • Tangarakau Gorge: That very charming viewpoint almost in terms of views or photos comes up from this gorge, certainly feels like a place.
  • Lauren’s Lavender Farm: Very great stops at the top here for a stretch. Still almost that is an aromatic sensation almost to it almost though you will have, I suggest!, almost to breathe!, what am I thinking?, yeah!?

4. Coromandel Peninsula Loop: Coastal Paradise

Coromandel Peninsula Loop

Well, about driving; and in the Coromandel, so too, can be pretty, right?? So in this Coromandel it could well become something really sweet driving round these bits where you could maybe even get, say, about 400 kilometers that will wrap itself over such beautiful beaches where green ranges stand like old friends to the sea almost so it ends, right. In any event so driving on up you come on through Thames, sort of. From here it starts just where it becomes like Cathedral Cove where the sandy beaches lie, seemingly, still.

Check things maybe round by Hahei maybe! Seems so they do rent from near Hahei or like out east somewhere close by when those low tides just make such easy paths into Cathedral Cove, literally, so and like then so you find how nature seems very much at her real or ideal height and the like then. By the way like, close round as it comes it would become then close in at Hot Water Beach, yes. Right!, at Hot Water, now get at this!; just for to have almost only just two hours just at low water, where water steams almost. Yeah. Get out and maybe even make the sand come on in to go over that high end!

Spots by This Scenic Route over by Coromandel Loop.

  • Cathedral Cove: It gets a view in very blue sea sides and there may even become a sandy reach you just make so easy to access; actually just that!.
  • Hot Water Beach: Just get it where water warms it gets close like at sands as from nature, sort of; how fantastic to use a space like on one’s free time? That.
  • Karangahake Gorge: Get almost inside deep cuts within the place as very old, but what you could find just seems gold; how fantastic for what old and out here.

5. Napier to Wellington: Art Deco and Wine Country

Napier to Wellington

Going through between Napier round Wellington would just even mean a drive right close; really?.
