Sierra Negra Volcano & Volcanic Landscape
The Sierra Negra Volcano, it’s one of the big daddies around Isabela Island, really. As a matter of fact, it’s boasting one of the largest volcanic calderas on the whole planet. The view? Very like otherworldly, you could almost lose yourself staring at it. It’s this massive expanse of cooled lava and almost steaming vents that kinda makes you feel like you’re on another planet. First, the hike up there, it’s more or less moderate – very like even if you’re not a super experienced hiker, you could totally manage it. That being said, make sure you’re ready for a bit of a trek because that’s needed. Bring water, very, very important, and maybe slap on some sunscreen, and also, a hat. Oh, and your camera, absolutely! Once you hit the top, that view, oh boy, you won’t believe what you’re seeing! You know, after soaking in the caldera view, the tour usually then takes you to Volcan Chico, a smaller, almost parasitic cone that showcases some wild volcanic formations and some vibrant colors, almost a living geology textbook, that’s what I’d call it. Trust me, it’s very one of those sights you won’t easily forget. If the sky is nice and clear, which I am praying it will be, bring those extra batteries! That panorama almost begs to be photographed from every possible angle.
