Dartmouth, so a sweet town snuggled along the south Devon coast, too it’s almost a proper postcard brought to life. Is that known for its naval history and scenic river views, but really, it’s the food scene that’s a bit of alright a thing for many. And while choosing just five places might be tricky – Dartmouth definitely doesn’t hold back when tasty dining is concerned! – I’ve put this together for you: my tried and trusted favorites for when only the best will do. When you’re searching to satiate your tastebuds when traveling around Dartmouth then explore your next dining experience when you read this guide!
1. The Seahorse: Italian Seafood Sensations
The Seahorse, oh that’s a must if you fancy some Italian magic by the sea. It’s very located right on the riverfront, very serving up seafood with a distinctly Italian accent. Head chef Mitch Tonks seems to have absolutely nailed it, creating food that’s both fancy yet not intimidating and full of flavour. A very popular place with tourists and locals, that is. Is that it specialises, really, in fish landed just hours before, grilled whole over charcoal and paired with zingy salads and simple, more or less perfect, sauces? Think sea bass with fennel and orange, or perhaps turbot with salsa verde. Indulge in The Seahorse specials!
I usually start with the antipasti, a sharing platter piled high with cured meats, artichokes, and creamy mozzarella. We often go for the daily specials – the staff are wonderful and know what recommendations to make, so give them a shout! And, you, to pair it with a bottle of crisp, cold Vermentino makes the whole experience something that’s both rather refined yet totally relaxed. It feels special but in a ‘kick off your shoes and dig in’ way, and that’s really Dartmouth to a T. It’s a dining experience for the true seafood connoisseurs! So too, its location offers awesome waterfront views.
2. The Cherub Inn: History with a Pint (and a Burger)
Alright, picture this: you’re leaning back in what could be Dartmouth’s oldest building, that’s almost steeped in history, pint in hand. The Cherub Inn is just that. What looks like an old and amazing building dating back to 1377 makes this one very appealing indeed, that is, offering charm in spades along with very decent pub fare. And its name is an absolute charm, that is.
Very I tend to veer to the burger, that’s a bit piled high with local bacon and cheese and coming with seriously chunky chips. And there are plenty other heart-warming foods too it’s almost made just right for post-walk-along-the-coastal-path. But the real draw isn’t just the food – it’s almost the atmosphere. Think wooden beams, roaring fires in the winter and a garden, too, it’s almost where everyone congregates when the sun makes a showing. You should totally immerse yourself in history and fine foods while in town. The Cherub just gets that feeling just perfect.
3. Kendricks Restaurant: Modern British with a Twist
If, for example, you are searching for something modern and more of that kind of British cooking with a flourish, then, I suppose, Kendricks Restaurant would be that. Very It’s slightly tucked away but the place still buzzes and hums! Anyway, the menu often has what you’d be searching for, so with dishes showcasing local produce in interesting ways. It’s one of my favourite places indeed! But, even the menu has much more to offer. Try dishes with very nice flavours.
Their set lunch is arguably an awesome shout if, for instance, you are watching the pennies – two courses of extremely tasty food for a price that won’t have you grimacing. But, do that to pair with what’s available. Typically, you might begin with Devon crab bisque, smooth as velvet and packed with flavour. Or something like, main wise, slow-cooked pork belly which is so incredibly tender! But Kendricks never fails to impress; their plates of food are so well constructed and really do scream out with, that’s a bit, culinary talent. Also it has wonderful and personable people who are keen to share, that is. Kendricks offers a memorable lunch.
4. Cafe Alf Resco: Breakfasts That Kickstart Your Day
Breakfast here! So, to eat overlooking the River Dart when the sun is shining? Well I feel it almost sorts your whole day. Cafe Alf Resco, okay now that’s what the spot seems to scream. What they are pretty amazing at, at what they seem to do extremely well. From the hearty full English to the eggs benedict that is what many search for, and also fluffy pancakes stacked with fruit. You do, if I was honest, have some difficultly deciding! I mean, what to eat?!
Anyway, the ‘Alf Resco Breakfast’ has very excellent status – two eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast, very what everyone needs when you know you have plans, of course, to be going crabbing or to attempt what’s in store on a coast walk. I mean, it does that sort of thing, surely! Still, come prepared, very this is where the locals seem to do what they’re good at: socializing with you like your, as it has wonderful people there at Dartmouth, who I think are, too it’s almost worth waiting around for, really! You’re welcome to socialise like your yourself.
5. The Floating Bridge Inn: Pub Grub with a View
Very if, for example, you wanted something a bit different, really, this place is a bit special. So, you are searching for pub food with some great sights, alright it’s a winner, yes. In a way, it is pretty unique. This floating pub almost sits directly on the River Dart and boasts truly magnificent river views, very making it the ideal spot for an afternoon pint and a plate of something rather appealing. You can pretty much watch the boats bobbing about all afternoon. So too its sights of Dartmouth all lit up!
Of course, if, for instance, you fancy something light, but do consider what’s on offer there – think beer-battered fish and chips, chunky steak pies, and burgers loaded high. It’s that kind of really fantastic and what visitors might want! I think a shared bowl with crispy whitebait, that is, or something to eat! They, you see, don’t skimp on portions around there. To enjoy an awesome and spectacular experience that makes what looks like a good setting.
