Planning a trip to the Sunshine Coast and, too, looking for some thrills? So, you are really in for a treat. It’s almost like this slice of Queensland is bursting with things to do that’ll get your heart racing and, of course, offer those amazing views that postcards just can’t seem to capture properly. That dream trip doesn’t have to be that far off! So, picking what to do, that can be, you know, rather tricky with so many options floating around, too it’s almost overwhelming. 1. Fraser Island (K’gari) 4WD Adventure

Think big sand dunes, super old rainforests, and bright, blue lakes – so, that’s what you’re getting with a 4WD adventure on Fraser Island. It’s that iconic and unforgettable adventure, that it actually has two names. So, some call it Fraser Island, while the Butchulla people will always know it as K’gari, very rightly meaning ‘paradise’. That’s right, driving along Seventy-Five Mile Beach is such a buzz, very like your own personal movie scene, and a quick 4wd allows one to fully soak it up. Lake McKenzie is quite the sight – with that totally clear water and crazy white sand, it might be quite hard to believe you’re not actually dreaming! But it’s no fantasy. And then there is the Maheno shipwreck, is that kind of sitting there like a rusty old ghost, yet with its story shouting out loud, too it’s almost impossible to not take pictures.

Okay, here is the tour bit, this can go one of two ways: either you jump on a guided tour and let someone else do the hard work, or, anyway, you can just rent a 4WD and go explore yourself. Remember, this isn’t that manicured park. So, you will really want to be reasonably confident driving on sand, and, as I was saying, you’ll need a permit. Also, the wildlife. Well, very obviously, dingos live there and can be bold. That it’s always best to keep a good distance, especially away from food. But I suppose the views make it all that bit easier to stay safe! It’s also a special place; and one is to treat the island, too it’s almost like sacred ground. That said, every corner will actually be a new surprise, it’s almost certain. It truly is that good.

2. Noosa Everglades Canoe or Kayak Tour

So, here is a change of pace. Trade that engine noise for, that is that soft splash of a paddle with a canoe or kayak tour, this is in the Noosa Everglades. This place? Alright, it’s sometimes named the “River of Mirrors”. That the dark waters seem to show off the scenery just so. So, it really does seem more expansive than it could actually be! A bit like they do in films. Anyway, the everglades cover over half of the entire Noosa region. So, very simply, you could very, very easily get lost there if you aren’t careful! But it’s well worth finding it. Often, they say over 40% of Australia’s birdlife lives there; a place very attractive to ornithologists, indeed.

Most tours will sort of pick you up and take you a bit out of Noosa to the launch spot. First up there’s that boring safety stuff, and, in the same way, a few tips for paddling – though even those pretty clumsy people will get going pretty quickly. Basically, there is options too for the time. Very, very short tours are available, all the way up to multi-day camping trips right on the water’s edge. Either sounds great, to be honest! Pack sunscreen anyway, clearly. Also, those pesky bugs are almost certain to be waiting for a feed, but most importantly? That a real trip will show just how special and serene the place seems to be. Honestly, the regular noisy places that we visit can just feel exhausting afterwards! That it all moves much slower here. You know, where there are less distractions and more simple wonder.

3. Whale Watching off the Coast

From June through to November, is that there’s this opportunity to witness humpback whales travelling by, that it could actually be one of the most amazing things one ever sees! That it’s their yearly migration up to warmer waters for, basically, vacation and baby-making, basically. So, if one jumps on a whale watching tour on the Sunshine Coast, they’ll more or less probably leave from Mooloolaba. Basically, lots of outfits there kind of race to find the best spots to observe. As a matter of fact, you will get a knowledgeable guide kind of chatting about these majestic animals, answering many common questions, and giving a better overview.

If you are anything like your parents, make sure you get the seasickness meds. So, boats on the open ocean, that are very susceptible to the rough stuff, even on a calmer day! On top of seasickness, you’ll have, like your fellow tourists trying to cram their cameras in your space for that dream shot. Now, the important thing? They are wild animals. Just, in a way, don’t get totally shattered if these animals stay just that little bit away! You probably won’t regret going anyway; many folk rate it pretty highly as that very highlight of their trip.

4. Scuba Diving or Snorkelling at Mudjimba Island (Old Woman Island)

Not all that far from the coast at Maroochydore lies Mudjimba Island, commonly known as Old Woman Island. Still, this bit of rock seems to offer crystal clear waters and some pretty neat underwater sights. That said, is that whether you want a proper scuba session, or are, like me, very content with just floating around with a snorkel, there’s, in short, enough there to be worth it. Basically, with both beginners and that a bit more advanced catered for too! Though don’t forget your certificate – they will definitely ask!

Very similar to the whale watching expeditions; many, maybe nearly all tours sort of roll out of Mooloolaba. But I suppose that location is, like, rather prime for it. Don’t worry! That those trips won’t take a long time at all to motor over. I mean, Mudjimba’s only that little bit out! As a matter of fact, one of those trips, just like your trip out whale spotting, could face some chop, but don’t let it completely deter you, okay? But on a good day, with those clear waters and tons of sea life darting about, as I was saying, it can truly make a top highlight of one’s time away. You’ll want to see this!

5. Adventure Park Ziplining

Fancy a change from that regular beach and water thing? Just think about getting a bit of a buzz up in the trees at an adventure park. So, you’ll find that at various locations up on the coast here, offering very fun ways to get that pulse going! Anyway, there’s places very near to that very popular Mooloolaba, and those just slightly further inland. Though all aren’t too difficult to reach. Most? Well most, for instance, operate with trained staff, of course, and, similarly to other regulated industries, tend to go overboard with the checks, which is, basically, comforting when hanging super high on that wire.

Each of the courses are commonly graded a little. Alright, just a bit like ski runs; is that there is those easier bits, right to some real nerve-janglers! Just because I’m a chicken, I still give it a shot anyway! They also vary those packages depending on those age groups; so kids often get a decent run too. Most, though, aren’t very easy for very, very little nippers, obviously. On the other hand? That a great option for those folk still sort of agile, yet without wanting some totally insane challenge like rock climbing, too it’s almost that happy medium.
