Top 5 Tenby Food & Drink Spots: A Local’s Guide

Tenby Harbour

So, you are off to Tenby then, is that right? That’s totally brilliant! Very, very soon you’ll come to find that this little slice of Pembrokeshire is far more than just a beach and some fairly attractive buildings. Actually, it turns out that Tenby has a totally banging food and drink scene. We aren’t talking exclusively about seaside tat here. Instead, Tenby comes loaded with cracking spots that cater to just about every taste imaginable. That’s great, clearly, because who doesn’t enjoy good food? Getting a tasty plate isn’t always simple so to help I have decided to compile my own personal rundown of places. These are not so much to visit, yet a total must to swing by, and sample! Hopefully this helps when planning that lovely trip of yours.

Salty’s Beach Bar & Restaurant

Salty's Beach Bar Tenby

Right then, first off we have Salty’s, which tends to be practically sat right on the beach there. We find, at Salty’s, you will get great views as a free extra with whatever you order, very, very important. The food has quite a modern bent so too it’s almost a trendy gastropub-by-the-sea style of vibe going on, a little. I mean you could argue its Pembrokeshire tapas! Expect stuff such as crispy calamari, that staple favourite of seaside eateries, and, for the heartier types, chunky burgers and things like seafood linguine that I am especially keen on. In some respects, the cocktail menu here tends to be where Salty’s shows off, that. So you are planning on making your meal of that lovely late afternoon variety? Very, very easy to do while parked here sampling some very nicely mixed beverages while you enjoy some totally wicked views, which means this place works brilliantly on any day of the week!

The Blue Ball

The Blue Ball Tenby

Right, if it is a traditional pub that ends up tickling you fancy then what, is that, what exactly? The Blue Ball definitely could just be it. Yet the name doesn’t mean it only has ales and stout! I did not believe it when my family explained it. As I was saying, what we tend to get here is just a proper, classic, no-nonsense pub experience so that would certainly please most visitors I know. Yet I suppose that this inn is more known locally for what comes in and out of the kitchen so maybe it has hidden secrets! Typically the menu is all about comfort food: lovely pies, massive portions of fish and chips (the kind where the fish basically dwarves the plate), things such as bangers and mash… all those dishes are made just so, which should please most. What else? I think, frankly, the portions certainly won’t leave you hungry and clearly they offer a rather superb range of local ales and ciders for you to pick from to compliment whatever you fancy that day on that coast trip, right?

Plantagenet House

Plantagenet House Tenby

Alright then, next up and very different, is that Plantagenet House that is totally soaked in history. It might be that the restaurant’s got its home nestled within one of the oldest buildings still standing there in Tenby. It seemingly oozes character right from the door inwards so too it’s almost an authentic glimpse into days gone by. The ambiance is a little darker, in some respects, that, with stone walls, just a bit. Arguably, what comes to the grub we tend to get more of an eclectic blend on offer here, like your seafood sitting fairly closely next to rather brilliantly done steaks, with some very interesting vegetarian options sprinkled in as a very nice extra, and that suits many. In some respects, you also get what, is that, one of the very better wine lists around so arguably what Plantagenet does give punters tends to be somewhere that nails both food *and* atmosphere, which means your experience has a stronger feel from the building upwards! It seemingly ticks lots of very significant boxes, very, very significant because everyone I recommend adores this place, right near the coastline.

Flavour Cafe

Flavour Cafe Tenby

So next, if we end up switching gears slightly so maybe we end up thinking about brunch (mmm!) or a daytime treat (yay!), what we might consider doing instead involves popping over to the Flavour Cafe. That’s the trick with me – switching between vibes quickly and with excitement. So that cafe is known specifically for some amazing breakfasts, which are actually very reasonably priced so arguably we’re talking everything that tends to range between fry-ups, pancakes slathered in yummy things, and what you might call things on toast, that. As a matter of fact, for lunch they seem pretty nifty for salads, so arguably expect what ends up coming from them as very good sandwiches, so perhaps what is served isn’t Michelin star levels, but what is often put out, is that, tasty, honest grub that you are clearly getting served up with a friendly smile and you would expect. As I was saying, you do feel just so totally relaxed and chilled to sit here and get back some energy that, so clearly what that place seems like is a proper winner if the plans entail that much needed refuel stop while enjoying what Pembrokeshire gives you, right? In some respects, it is the sort of venue you never forget as the memories wash all over your skin, even while considering what else the country offers; it’s an outstanding venue to remember that for everyone!

The Hope & Anchor

The Hope & Anchor Tenby

Basically, last we come to the Hope & Anchor that does exactly what a really good pub should do but just elevated slightly. Typically, its perched with lovely views across the harbour, so just imagine what that could deliver; nice views are almost always a winner, really. Yet what this place has as an amazing boon is its location, that being really does do justice, it really does. That said, while we may find the views draw you inwards the thing that often brings folk back time and time again so what are the benefits that they have. Well it might just have everything that folk consider a proper classic seaside pub that being some reasonably priced and a good selection of the popular ales. More or less, so now you get good pub food, the kind we totally anticipate that typically delivers and they will seemingly deliver the goods too, as a bonus it’s quite generous in its delivery of stuff you ask for, or what. You see how exciting this ends up with its seaside touch, right? Clearly what also is offered ends up being a rather smashing selection of seafood nibbles (scampi, mussels etc), which may be that perfect if that means we fancy something small, rather than maybe eating a whole sit-down dinner with someone you wish you didn’t bring with. Just like the best plans tend to take place – everything falls together in beautiful harmony which means most don’t leave unsatisfied when having a pint or two and scoffing a bite to share or eat yourself. Isn’t that fantastic at all times?
