1. Limerick City Walking Tour: Footsteps Through Time
What better place to kick this off, so to speak, than this particular tour? Limerick City Walking Tour is very often, arguably, a great option for kinda soaking in the local vibes. Imagine this, basically, strolling along with a knowledgeable local person, who actually knows a lot about the area and they are, in fact, bringing Limerick’s amazing history to life, basically right before your very eyes. That old medieval section will very likely amaze you, as they are packed with all sorts of architectural history and other cool sites. Then too it’s almost as cool as you’d thought! It usually involves stopping at locations like King John’s Castle and the Treaty Stone, which really set this old Irish city firmly in medieval history and lore.
The guides here really love what they are doing. They are super passionate about it, they always know loads of interesting stories and little known details that definitely won’t pop up when doing your own research. You’ll definitely feel, very likely, totally hooked by their storytelling, they kinda bring out this extra something from an amazing time gone by that might go amiss otherwise. Also, you know, these guys take questions really seriously and have a deep understanding of pretty much everything you can throw at them!
And you know, you get more for the expense of a single coffee from your usual coffee joint, or in some respects a half-decent pint! If you actually want something more than your bog-standard look-at-buildings-with-headphones kinda job, then this tour, frankly, is gonna have you laughing, joking and smiling along as you explore some very interesting locations that would probably seem mundane with other tours. I found it well worth my money, anyway, and my friend who I brought with me seemed, you know, fairly impressed. So you might find yourself enjoying every inch and dollar like we did.
2. The Hunt Museum Tour: Ireland’s artistic side
Right, moving from ancient streets to Ireland’s world of art, we have this experience, at the Hunt Museum. It kinda sets itself aside, usually, by bringing a kinda cozy and, I dunno, warm feel and it’s located in the 18th century house itself. The vibe in there has something for absolutely everyone that very few others ever achieve!
Now, you might find that most museums are just galleries showcasing some items that some dude, very, very long ago just thought to keep hold of – this seems the opposite of all that kinda boredom. I mean that! The museum seems basically centered on personal items that are actually kept there in honour and love for people that gave them to this cool venue. And as I was saying, they are there for the taking! They showcase pretty much Irish history’s amazing art, so you are, actually, sure to be well engrossed. So many really cool tours, guides and even the general visitors know of other attractions nearby which is perfect for a first-timer here like my good self.
It could be that art isn’t actually your kinda go to source of fun, yet I urge everyone I come across to actually spend a bit of time in there because everyone in there clearly just lives for that location and those artifacts. The way they engage the audience and tell you, basically, these weird tales of a historic Ireland are what actually made it top on the list! As a matter of fact, that museum just became one of my top spots in the whole nation! So maybe I am biased. Still! Check it out and, well, you’ll probably think I was telling the truth all along!
3. Traditional Irish Music Session Tour: Sounds of Limerick
This tour, honestly, should be absolutely first on any list talking about any kind of exploration. No matter what area. As I was saying. As everyone very, very well knows, what makes the area tick, its heart beat is more often that not its musical influences, so that goes doubly or trebly here, obviously! I definitely was so right! Now I get why music matters.
In a way, this awesome trip allows you to explore places and venues usually out-of-bounds, whilst letting you soak in the sounds and fun along the way, a little. Some might be thinking: but aren’t the venues already a choice or something I do every time I walk by. So no. Instead it becomes more akin to those experiences you thought were lost in time, very, very long ago, I would definitely say.
They very likely, usually, arrange sessions that kinda mix new comers and super skilled regulars. It’s really great too, for a laugh, frankly, where the guys talk you through bits that are both famous and unknown. All of this usually provides those attending a warm, fun environment. Plus it all helps with seeing all the beauty, laughs and love of music. At the end of the day you’ll probably wish you had stayed around in the Irish bar every night after! Very cool!
4. Limerick Food Tour: Ireland On A Plate!
This thing! It goes without saying I am adding this to the list – obviously I love food as much as any other guy or gal! No matter how good the building tour or whatever activity might be, you actually must recharge the batteries so that, very, very soon, you can see absolutely all of those really great locations and landmarks again, too! It often makes you forget you went away. In other words. Digestion!
Limerick Food Tour, really, lets people taste this interesting blend of food types that showcase both global food choices plus this region’s take on all of them! And for me at least this all means the same thing to me… FUN!! A lot, really, of food-related experts help out at locations across Ireland; which, I kinda feel, makes the tours feel less stale like those school trips you hated as a kid. These are new spots to explore in more unique, super engaging ways!
These Food Tours kinda bring extra value, often. Some examples of this seem to show themselves across Ireland and those that provide you with great food tips on the best meals to make yourself, and obviously tips on the local and imported drinks too! They tend to add discounts so you can actually keep attending events without issue. To be honest you would feel so amazing from how many of the spots keep letting you go back in! In short: you won’t regret this at all. That’s just how these great Food Tours work, basically, in all their forms, or something. I always attend more than I really expect because, well, the locations and foods can often change every week or something!
5. Lough Gur Historical Tour: Stepping into Prehistory
Lastly there is this choice – you may find this less obvious or on peoples lists in the area of Limerick. Though that lake is arguably one of the oldest historical points, definitely. A truly important archaeological site, very. Some folk might agree too it’s almost cooler than even Stonehenge, honestly!
Though this place has an absolutely brilliant visitor centre, very, where I spent probably close to half a day, if you do happen to go I’d say consider getting involved with one of the official walking tours there too, very! Even though my time was mainly spent just staring out into all those old rocks at this lake, these awesome tour guides really go for gold trying to show others that they can also get this much out of it too – what could you even ask for, to get going? All of that history and culture! So much passion. They clearly go wild to display all those weird facts about it all. Pretty good.
If, I dunno, the weather is bad (a bit likely at times, just saying!) then they will always run that plan, you know, to the dot, though when they feel that sunshine shining down on you both you guys usually actually end up talking or exploring for an awful lot longer! It actually gave me a completely fresh, new vibe to what Limerick actually can stand for, that it stands head and shoulders above many different spots I visited. Even better now. You should enjoy it, basically. Like all the great reviews that it keeps achieving, that makes the decision seem worth the punt too! In some respects, anyway, so worth your cash!
