Top Luosto Tours: See the Magic of Lapland

Top Luosto Tours: See the Magic of Lapland

Luosto Finland Aurora

Luosto, like, a gem way up in Finnish Lapland, it’s almost the perfect place to get a taste of that arctic charm and seriously mind-blowing natural stuff. What I mean by that is scenery and experiences. People from every place visit so they can hopefully catch the Northern Lights, plus you can check out winter activities. With all there is to do, picking just one tour can be a bit of a head-scratcher. But don’t worry! Here’s a breakdown of five super tours, and this will make planning your Lapland escape just that bit easier.

1. Aurora Hunting by Snowmobile: Chasing the Lights

Luosto Snowmobile Aurora Tour

Seriously, zooming through the snow on a snowmobile when it’s very dark outside, chasing the Aurora Borealis? What an incredible time! Very, very skilled local guides will take you to locations that are off the grid, locations where light pollution is pretty much zero, and this is great when hunting the Northern Lights. You might be very happy to learn you will be wrapped up nice and warm in the provided gear; with this gear you’re able to properly experience that amazing arctic wilderness. Tours that involve snowmobiles, well they often have small groups, almost ensuring a kinda personalized time, which is pretty cool. Do take note that you usually need a driving license for the snowmobile. When it comes to actually witnessing the lights, it’s so important to understand that it is never, at any time guaranteed, because Mother Nature does what she wants. You could also argue that being out in the middle of nature, patiently waiting, that adds to the experience.

2. Reindeer Sleigh Ride: A Traditional Lapland Experience

Luosto Reindeer Sleigh Ride

Riding along in a sleigh pulled by reindeer, which is how they travel traditionally, is a low-key experience and something I think we all have to experience if we can. Just snuggled under warm blankets, moving slowly through the pristine forest, what I mean by that is, how lovely! What I mean when I say moving slowly, is that this really allows you to, in some respects, soak in all that quiet atmosphere of Lapland. So if you ask me, it’s not just a ride. It is actually a quiet dip into Lappish culture. Some tours, right, they end with sitting around a campfire drinking a warm drink – could be juice, could be coffee – so they will get you chatting with local reindeer herders, and really, that can give you real unique stories from the area. For any person that just wants a taste of that calm, traditional side to Lapland, well, I often tell them, this is an absolutely super experience.

3. Ice Fishing Adventure: Try a Truly Arctic Pastime

Luosto Ice Fishing

Trying your hand at ice fishing on a lake that’s completely frozen is such a distinctly Arctic activity; it’s an event. The local people almost always lead you to those spots which are known for having more fish, and so it could almost be said that they give you any tips about using your gear properly, and so, basically, your chances of catching something go up. Drilling a hole right through the ice, then waiting patiently for a bite, is kinda therapeutic. Plus, you get a proper insight into just how those locals interacted with the land way back in history. If you ask me, any fish you happen to catch can, possibly, be cooked right there over an open fire; eating what you’ve just caught will be an amazing story to share with your friends and family! What I mean when I say story is it would just be fun.

4. Snowshoeing in Pyhä-Luosto National Park: Get Close to Nature

Pyhä-Luosto National Park Snowshoeing

Popping on a pair of snowshoes lets you actually walk through Pyhä-Luosto National Park, at your own pace, which is just so special. This is your chance, in some respects, to explore super spots way deep in the park, spots which many can’t reach that easily during the winter months. In a small group you can almost always learn about that very special nature that Finland possesses from local experts, right, I mean what a cool thing! Very, very, still forests, plus amazing views that’ll blow you away; the national park possesses that untouched beauty and it will just be ingrained in your memory. You should know, there are hikes which are great for most levels, from not-so-experienced to pro-level walkers.

5. Amethyst Mine Visit: A Gem of an Experience

Luosto Amethyst Mine

Just a short distance coming from Luosto is Lampivaara Amethyst Mine. It gives everyone just a different experience in comparison with doing other tours. You get the incredible story of those amethysts while they take you into the mine, telling you all about that geological history, and I just find that kinda amazing, but what really makes this place cool is digging for your own gemstone. So if you’re lucky you may get a keepsake which has existed for eons, something from Finland itself. Seriously, think of the photos and the stories! Most people visit that mine while traveling through.
